Organizational Leadership
How the foundation is governed, who holds decision-making authority, and how editorial independence is protected.
SJCare Foundation is governed by a board that sets strategy, approves budgets and safeguards the independence of the organisation. Day-to-day work is carried out by a management team responsible for investigations, publishing, programmes, finance and administration.
Board of trustees
The board meets quarterly to review performance, approve the annual plan and budget, and receive the finance report. Trustees are appointed for a fixed term and may not be paid for their service.
Management
The management team is organised into five functions: investigations, editorial and publishing, programmes and awards, humanitarian assistance, and finance and administration. Each function reports to the chief executive, who reports to the board.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions are taken by the editorial team, not by donors, trustees or the management team. Where a story concerns the foundation itself, or a person connected to it, the decision to publish is taken by the board and disclosed with the story.
Accountability
Staff and volunteers are bound by the editorial and corrections policy. Reports of misconduct are handled confidentially. Financial records are reviewed annually and published in summary form.
To raise a concern about the conduct of the foundation or its staff, please use our report a concern form and mark it for the attention of the board.
