Mission, Vision and Values
Why the foundation exists, what it is trying to change, and the standards it holds itself to.
SJCare Foundation is a Nigerian non-governmental organisation working on police and judicial accountability, good governance, public education and humanitarian support for vulnerable people.
Mission
To document and publicise the conduct of public institutions in Nigeria, to correct the misinformation that shapes public debate, and to deliver practical relief to people who are suffering harm.
Vision
A Nigeria where a citizen can question a police officer, challenge a court ruling or hold an official to account without fear, and where a person in need can find help.
Values
- Accuracy before speed. Nothing is published until it has been checked against documents or a first-hand account.
- Independence. The foundation does not take instructions from government, political parties or any interest group.
- Fairness. Anyone criticised in our work is given a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.
- Openness. Donations, expenses and project budgets are recorded and published.
- Care. People who approach us for help are treated with dignity and their information is protected.
What we are not
We are not a court, a law-enforcement body but a provider of legal representation. We do not replace the police complaints system or the courts. Our role is to gather information, publish it accurately, explain rights clearly and connect people to the appropriate authority or to direct assistance.
